Psychology Today Headshots For Bay Area  Therapist Profile Photos By

Psychology Today Headshots for Bay Area Therapists

Your Psychology Today profile photo is the first thing a potential client sees. Before they read your specialties, your approach, or your credentials — they look at your photo and decide in about one second whether you feel like someone they could trust.

That decision is made before a single word is read. We make sure the answer is yes.

At Camerawerkz, we photograph Bay Area therapists, counselors, psychologists, and mental health professionals for their Psychology Today profiles and broader professional presence. Our Jack London Square studio in Oakland is private, quiet, and specifically designed to produce the kind of warm, approachable, and professionally polished headshots that make potential clients feel comfortable reaching out.

What Psychology Today Profile Photos Need to Communicate

A headshot for a therapist is different from a headshot for an attorney or a tech executive. The visual signals are different. The emotional register is different.

Attorneys need to look authoritative. Executives need to look decisive. Therapists need to look safe — like someone a person in a vulnerable moment would feel comfortable opening up to.

That means warmth over formality. Approachability over authority. A genuine expression over a posed one. Lighting that's soft rather than dramatic. A result that looks like you on a good day, not a version of you that's been styled into someone else.

We direct every session with these goals in mind. Every posture adjustment, expression cue, and lighting choice is made with your specific professional context in mind.

The Session

Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes at our private studio at Jack London Square in Oakland. The space is quiet and calm — no waiting rooms, no other clients, no rushing between appointments.

Every shot is fully directed. You don't need to know how to pose or what expression to make. We guide you through the entire session — where to put your shoulders, how to hold your chin, what to do with your hands, what expression reads as warm and open on camera versus what just looks like a smile being performed.

Most therapists tell us afterward that they expected to hate the experience and were surprised by how easy and comfortable it was. That's the goal.

For Group Practices and Mental Health Organizations

If you run a group therapy practice, a community mental health organization, or a mental health service team — and you need consistent, professional headshots across multiple clinicians — a team headshot day is the more efficient solution.

We bring a complete mobile studio directly to your practice. Every therapist and clinician gets photographed one at a time, five to ten minutes each, with full direction on every shot. The result is a consistent set of professional headshots across your entire team — the same lighting, the same backdrop, the same warm and approachable standard — delivered within two weeks and ready for your website, Psychology Today profiles, and any other platform where your clinicians appear professionally.

For group practices, this eliminates the coordination challenge of sending multiple clinicians to a studio on different days and ending up with headshots that don't match each other.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT THERAPIST HEADSHOT

A headshot for a therapist is not the same as a headshot for a corporate executive. The goals are different. The feel is different. Here's what we specifically focus on for mental health practitioners:

Warmth over authority.

Executive headshots project confidence and power. Therapist headshots need to project safety and openness. We dial back the formality and focus on an expression and body language that makes potential clients feel like you'd actually listen to them.

A genuine smile, not a posed one.

Clients can tell the difference between a real expression and one held for the camera. The direction throughout your session is specifically designed to get to something natural and unguarded, not a fixed smile you're holding while trying to look professional.

Soft, flattering light.

Harsh or dramatic lighting reads as corporate. For therapist headshots we use softer lighting setups that feel more approachable and warm — the visual equivalent of a calm, welcoming office.

A background that doesn't compete.

Neutral, warm-toned backgrounds work best for therapy profiles — nothing that pulls attention away from your face or feels clinical. We have multiple backdrop options and help you choose what works best for your practice style.

Clothing that says approachable professional.

Not a suit and tie. Not casual weekend wear. The sweet spot is something you'd actually wear in session — put together but not stiff. We help you figure out what that looks like for you before we start shooting.

WHO BOOKS THERAPY HEADSHOTS WITH US

Solo practitioners launching or refreshing a private practice who need a Psychology Today profile photo that actually represents who they are and the kind of clients they want to attract.

Group practice therapists whose practice wants a consistent, cohesive look across all clinician profiles on their website and Psychology Today team page. We photograph multiple therapists in a single session with consistent lighting and backgrounds.

Psychiatrists and prescribers in private practice or integrated care settings who need a headshot that balances clinical credibility with warmth and approachability.

Marriage and family therapists, social workers, and counselors building their caseload through online directories who need a profile photo that makes potential clients feel comfortable enough to reach out.

Therapists who've been using the same photo for years and know it no longer looks like them, no longer reflects how they practice, or is simply not doing the job it should be doing.

"Sergio was very professional and made me feel comfortable right away. The pictures he took captured the confidence and creativity I wanted them to. He'll always be my go-to when I need headshots or any other photographs."
