About Camerawerkz — Oakland's Professional Headshot Photographer

Bonus points if you ever wore a pager in high school, rolled down a car window with the circular crank, watched The Wonder Years, or woke up early for Saved by the Bell on Saturday mornings.

I'm Sergio Gomez, a Bay Area professional headshot and portrait photographer based at Jack London Square in Oakland, CA. For more than 15 years I've photographed professionals, executives, and teams across the Bay Area and the country, delivering corporate headshots, solo sessions, law firm photography, and full team headshot days for businesses that want a polished and consistent look.

I have a simple belief: great photos happen when people feel comfortable and confident. My job behind the camera is to bring the right energy, direction, and guidance so you look your best. My style is friendly, relaxed, and efficient. I guide you through every pose and expression so you never have to worry about what to do with your face or your hands.

Because when you feel comfortable in front of the camera, you look confident, and those are the images we're both after.

What I Actually Do

The short version: I photograph teams.

Companies, law firms, tech startups, healthcare groups, nonprofits, government agencies, real estate brokerages, engineering firms — if your organization needs consistent, professional headshots for an entire team, that's the work I've built Camerawerkz around.

Most of the time that means I show up at your office with a complete mobile studio, spend 45 to 60 minutes setting up in your conference room or lobby, and then photograph every person on your team one at a time. Five to ten minutes each. Fully directed. Nobody has to know how to pose. That's my job.

By the end of the day your whole team has been photographed and the office has barely noticed. A couple weeks later you have a complete set of consistent, professional headshots ready for your website, LinkedIn, staff directory, press materials, and anywhere else your team shows up publicly.

I also photograph individuals like executives, solo practitioners, new hires, and professionals who've been putting off getting a real headshot for longer than they'd like to admit. Solo sessions run 30 to 45 minutes at the Oakland studio. Same approach, same direction, same results.

Why Teams

I didn't set out to be the team headshot guy. It happened gradually over about a decade of photographing Bay Area professionals and noticing a pattern.

Individual headshots are satisfying. You work with one person, you get them comfortable, you take a great photo. Done.

Team headshot days are something else entirely. There's a logistics puzzle to solve, a schedule to run, fifteen or fifty or a hundred different people to get in front of the camera and actually get something useful out of. It requires a completely different set of skills — not just technical, but organizational and interpersonal. You're managing energy across an entire organization for a full day.

I turned out to be good at it. And I genuinely enjoy it. So that's what Camerawerkz became.

The Studio

The studio is at Jack London Square in Oakland — one of the best-located spots in the Bay Area for a photography studio. Easy freeway access from I-880 and I-580, walkable from the 12th Street Oakland City Center BART station, and a straight shot across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco.

It's a private, purpose-built headshot space — professional strobe lighting, multiple backdrop options, and a tethered camera system so you can see your shots on a monitor in real time as the session progresses. No waiting rooms full of other clients, no rushing between appointments, no distractions. Just a focused, relaxed session built around getting the best out of whoever's sitting in the chair.

For team headshot days, the studio comes to you. Same equipment, same lighting, same quality — rebuilt in your conference room, lobby, or open office space wherever you are in the Bay Area.

15 Years. A Lot of Teams.

In 15 years I've photographed hundreds of Bay Area professionals and teams. Tech companies and enterprise organizations. Law firms from solo practitioners to regional multi-practice firms. Healthcare practices and medical groups. Startups from seed stage through post-IPO. Financial services firms and wealth management groups. Government agencies and public sector organizations. Nonprofits. Real estate brokerages. Architecture and engineering firms. Marketing agencies. Universities.

Some sessions I still think about. A 200-person engineering firm photographed across two offices in two days, both locations coming out looking like they were shot in the same room. A law firm in downtown Oakland where the managing partner, who told me upfront she hated having her photo taken, ended up with the best headshot in the set. A startup team that came in looking like four different companies stitched together and left with photos that looked like they'd been built together from day one.

Those are the ones that make the job worth doing.

What People Usually Ask

Do I need experience in front of a camera? No. Most people I photograph have never had a real headshot session before. I direct every shot from start to finish — posture, expression, chin angle, shoulder position. You don't have to figure any of it out. That's the whole point.

How do you handle camera-shy people? Same as everyone else — I talk to them, get a sense of who they are, and find a way to make the experience feel less like having your photo taken and more like having a conversation that occasionally involves a camera. Camera-shy people consistently get some of the best results because they stop trying to perform and just settle into it.

Do you travel outside the Bay Area? Yes. I've photographed teams in Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, and other cities for Bay Area companies with offices elsewhere. Reach out and we'll figure out the logistics.
