I need to write this down before I forget. f 4.5, ss 200, iso 1600 and 1 400w feathered at 1/256 .3+ power.
Now as my photography journey continues I've been thinking about moving in the direction of environmental and editorial portraits. I love the look and feel of this type of photography. Headshots are great but I'm craving the authenticity that comes through in an editorial portrait. No smile needed but of course if that is you than so be it as long as it's real. What I was trying to achieve in this session was the balance and contrast between light and shadow on the face to create the contour in the image gives it editorial feel.
How I built the shot was to expose for the background. There was already window light coming in from behind on camera left. I decided that I would feather the light with my main light ( a large white soft box on camera right. I notice that the window light was hitting right side a little harder than I wanted but still had a nice overall feel to it. Some of the shots have a white reflector behind her to block the harsh light and some don't. I also notice that having the soft box about 5 ft feathered on camera right produce a light and fall off and once I brought it closer I would pitch it more to my right to keep the fall off soft.
